Demko Bed-System

Back pain prevention and treatment, spine health preservation

“A man is as young as his spinal column. If your spine is stiff at 30, you are old. If it is flexible at 60, you are young.” Joseph H. Pilates

“Training as a para dressage athlete takes its toll on my body. Consequently, rest and recovery is paramount to my success in the saddle. Replacing my bed and mattress for a Demko bed and bed-system has given me the comfortable nights sleep that I so desperately craved. This is without a doubt the best bed I have ever slept on!”

How it prevents back pain

The spine and body are flexible therefor they need flexible support. One which adjusts automatically to each individual body and how it moves. The double row slat base under the mattress can move in all 3 dimensions. As a result, it can perfectly adjust ergonomically to the contour of any body type at any position. The slats are made of white beech wood which go through a special steaming and cooling process to make them strong as well as flexible at the same time. The strips between the slat rows are made of a special durable foam material in special canvas cases.

Its special finish and suspension means they are able to carry out vertical, transverse and rotational movement. Regardless weight, shape or position on the bed, it always keeps the spine in the ideal position. Furthermore, it makes perfect weight shifting.

The slat base adapts perfectly to the shape of the user’s body. It provides perfect, equal support to the spine along its full length as well as exceptional lower back support.

The vertebral discs will take up the optimal position during sleep avoiding their degeneration. Importantly, decreasing the load strain and thereby ensuring that no harmful tension points develop. The Demko Bed-System evenly distributes the weight on the bones, the ligaments, the muscles linking them. As well as on the muscles surrounding the spine and the area around the joints. As a consequence, the blood supply will be perfect as will be the removal of inter-tissue waste material through the veins and lymph vessels. At the same time the slat base also stretches the spine longitudinally, moving the vertebrae and articular discs away from each other. The arteries are straightened out and the local blood pressure will decrease and supply of nutrition to the articular discs will increase.

Eliminate back pain by the Demko Bed-System which is also the perfect solution for preventing and treating of

back pain prevention
  • Acute and chronic loco-motor diseases
  • Lumbago, sciatica, spinal disc herniation and post-operative conditions
  • Degenerative disc disease and vertebral subluxations
  • Vertebral and limb disorders
  • Joint pains, arthritis, osteoporosis, spinal injuries
  • Lower back pain and spinal pain
  • Pain in the vertical- thoracic- and lumbar vertebrae
  • Pain and numbness in the upper and lower extremities
  • Insomnia, poor circulation and short of breath
  • Acid reflux and night-time heartburn

“After permanent use of the Demko Bed-System in the above mentioned conditions the need for drug use, as supported by previous clinical surveys, has dropped considerably or even ceased and planned surgeries have become avoidable.” A. Tailor MD (Specialist in Neurosurgery)

“The qualities of the Demko Bed-System not only prevent the further deterioration of spine disorders but as prevention, they can make it impossible for them to appear at all. As a practising doctor who cures patients with locomotor diseases, I find the Demko Bed-System extremely good, both at the prevention of spinal disorders, and their regeneration.” Dr J. Baggio (Spine-Specialist, Head Physician)

“The important effect of the slat base of the Demko Bed-System is that it is not only the load on the spine that will become more evenly distributed due to the plastic-dynamic support, but also the body stretches out length-wise, the spine stretches on the slat base” Dr G. Sengey (Orthopaedist)

Demko Bed-System

Sleeping on a too soft or too firm bed can cause structural changes created by bad posture. This can contribute to degenerative disc disease, along with other degenerative changes to the spine. On a too soft bed the spine bends onto the bed and the muscles slacken on the concave side. During that time:

  • the vertebrae and the bones degenerate
  • bone sediment forms on their corners
  • the muscle becomes taut on the convex side and the arteries running through the muscles become compressed
  • the blood supply deteriorates and neither can the used blood pass out through the compressed veins and lymph vessels
  • pains like muscular strain, occurs when we wake up
  • the muscles and ligaments become stretched, thus their holding effect is weakened during physical activity during the day

The situation is very similar on a too firm bed, but the negative effect occurs in a different section.

As John Lennon BM, MM.C, and Norman Shealy M.D stated that “bad posture affects and moderates every psychologic function from breathing to hormonal production. Spinal pain, headache, mood, blood pressure, pulse and lung capacity are among the functions most easily influenced by posture.”

The bed-system can come in our bed frames – click here to see our bed ranges – or it can be built into existing bed frames.

The bed-system comes either with a 10cm organic latex mattress (for persons under 16 stones / 100 kgs) or a combination mattress of 3cm coir fibre + 7cm organic latex (for persons above 16 stones / 100 kgs) where the coir fibre layer provides extra support. The mattresses on our organic mattresses page can not be used with the bed-system as they would be too thick/firm for it and would decrease the effect of the slat base. (They are for traditional mattress bases without our slat base.)

In queen, king and Cal king size beds we always put two single bed-systems so they can work independently for each bodies.

Care instructions for our mattresses

Our mattresses are two sided and you can use both sides. The side with the big product sticker attached to the cover is normally the top, you can however use the other side as well.

Take extreme care whilst moving the mattress as the foam fillings can tear if grabbed or pulled on corners or edges.

Rotate the mattress from top to bottom and flip it over once every 3 months, this will ensure even wear and tear and will prolong its lifespan.

You can air the mattress every time you change your bed linen to keep it fresh and dry.

Never use detergents or chemical cleaners on your mattress. This can adversely affect not only the fabrics but also the fillings inside.

The mattress must be kept dry. If there is a risk of accidents with fluids, please use a waterproofed mattress protector.

If you spill something on your mattress and it gets wet, wipe the liquid with a cloth, remove the cover and air the mattress core till it is dry. You can then use the mattress again.

Our covers are zip-off removable and washable at 30 degrees. Do not wash the cover at a higher temperature as the wool inside may shrink. Do not tumble dry and do not dry clean it.

The mattress can not be used on boarded, closed or not adequately ventilated bed bases or on the floor as the lack of ventilation may lead to mould and mildew build up and invalidates your guarantee. We recommend slatted bases. The gaps between the slats should be between 2 and 4 inches wide.

The mattress is designed for sleeping on and constant sitting on the edge can cause damage and place undue stress on this area of the mattress.

Please keep packaging away from children. Please recycle or dispose packaging.
